The Pearly Gates

"Why hello thar, my name's Jesus Christ!" said a very upbeat fellow to a man who had just landed, from where he couldn't remember, at the feet of the bearded messiah. Jesus looked down and smiled again. "Don't be afraid, chum. On your feet! Be happy!" he said.

As he stood up, Jesus waved his hand and a mojito materialized, floating in thin air between the two men. "Drink up," he commanded. "We've got stuff to do." Gingerly, Jesus then pulled a large key out from around his neck and turned to unlock a large gate behind him. Suddenly, he stopped and asked of his companion, "Dude, what's your name again?"

"Jeff," the man answered.

"Okay, right, Jeff. Yeah..." the holy son pondered, "that's super." He turned back to his work and soon a loud click sounded from the lock. "Sweet. We're in, man!" Jesus said, turning again to Jeff.

Jeff felt queasy from the drink. His left shoe was loose and he strongly suspected that both his armpits hid dark, unattractive sweat stains. He was tired and wanted to speak to his family.

"C'm'on, dude. We're gonna paint the town red," Jesus added, waving Jeff on through the gate.

He walked ahead reluctantly, trying not to drag his feet, hoping desperately not to upset Jesus.
